General Rules and Regulations

  • The college lays great emphasis on decent behavior from every student.

  • Students should attend classes, functions and the other activities of the college in time.

  • Students should not posses and use any type of cell phones inside the college campus.

  • Dressing of students of PSG Polytechnic College should wear the prescribed uniform.

  • In the intervals or during the unexpected absence of the teacher concerned, students should remain silent in the classrooms.

  • Scribbling on the walls and desks or doing any other kind of damage to the college property is strictly prohibited. Students responsible for any such wanton damage will be severely punished.

  • Students should not throw waste papers, chocolate covers etc on the veranda, Stair case etc. They should keep the College & Hostel Campus neat and clean

  • Students should not loiter in the verandas, sit on the steps of the portico and staircases.

  • Students are forbidden from smoking inside the college premises.

  • Students who are found using drugs or in a drunken state will be summarily dismissed from the college.

  • Ill-treatment of fresh students in the name of ragging is strictly prohibited. Students found guilty of this crime will be dismissed from the college.

  • Hostellers are prohibited from maintaining powered vehicles. Day Scholars using powered two wheelers should wear helmets, failing which they will not be permitted to park their vehicles in the College parking area.

  • Students should refrain from participation in party and communal politics.

  • Students are expected to look at the notice board every day.

  • Students should park their vehicles in the space meant for parking.

  • For organising functions, conferences, meetings or any gathering of this kind, students should get the prior permission of the Principal.

  • The Principal has the absolute right to penalise or suspend or dismiss any student found guilty of gross misconduct inside or outside the college campus.

  • ATTENDANCE

  • Students should be in their seats in the respective classes before the teacher enters the class.

  • Anybody who is not present in the class when the attendance is taken will be marked absent.

  • Attendance will be calculated on day basis. Absence for one Or more periods during a session will be treated as absence for half a day

  • Calling students from the class room/laboratory during lecture hours / practical's except with the permission slip from the head of the department concerned is prohibited.

  • Students have to apply for ordinary leave in advance through online using ecampus.psgpolytech.ac.in / studzone and submit their leave letter to their tutor for approval of the same.

  • Hostel students should have their leave applications endorsed by the Deputy Warden Attached to the hostel.

  • Leave applications of Day Scholars should bear the signature of the Parent or Guardian.

  • Students have to apply for Medical Leave online within 5 days after the last date of medical leave and submit the Medical certificate to the tutor for approval for the same

  • Exception forms shall be signed by the concerned HoD /Staff Advisor/Physical Director/Concerned faculty in-charge and to be submitted to tutor for approval within 5days after attending the campus. Exemption also has to be applied online by the respective Student

  • NCC on-duty forms will be signed by the concerned NCC officer and the same is to be submitted to Academic Section (I307) in advance/within 5 days after attending the camps.

  • Prescribed minimum attendance should be maintained by each student as per the regulations relevant to his/her programme of study.

  • CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS

    STATEMENT OF POLICY

    All students must be honest in their academic studies. They shall not interfere and disturb the functioning of the college. They shall not endanger the safety of others and indulge in ragging. They shall not misuse the college materials, property and services. students are expected to behave with good manners both inside and outside the college campus upholding the traditions and values inherited by the college.

    1. ACADEMIC HONESTY

    Violations

    Specific violations of this standard include, but are not limited to:

  • Plagiarism is the act of copying, including or directly quoting from the work of another without adequate acknowledgment, in order to obtain benefit, credit or gain. Plagiarism may arise in a number of ways like, including the copying of the work of another student, the reproduction of course materials, notes or data directly from the World Wide Web and the direct transcription of the contents of a textbook or journal. The assignments, records, observations, industrial reports and project reports prepared by the student must be own preparation adhering to academic honesty.

  • Unauthorized possession, copying, distribution, sale, or other transfer of all or any part of an academic work, or the answers or solutions to an academic work.

  • Entering any building, facility, office, or other property, or accessing any computer file or other record or storage for the purpose of obtaining the answers or solutions to an academic assignment.

  • Obtaining answers to questions of an academic work from others using unfair means.

  • Failing to adhere to standards of professional behaviour established by a faculty member, academic programme or college in conjunction with an academic course.

  • Posting of notes or other materials from a class on the internet, whether or not for a fee, if the faculty member has expressly prohibited the posting of such materials.

  • Unauthorized use of electronic instruments, such as Cell Phones, iPads, translators or personal response systems to access or share information.

  • other forms of academic dishonesty not described here but in violation of the Academic Honesty policy. Any violation by the student in this context during the course of study will be seriously viewed.

  • 2. DISRUPTIVE CONDUCT:

    Disruptive behaviour is inappropriate behavior that interferes with the functioning and flow of the college environment.

    A. Violations

    Specific violations of this standard include, but are not limited to:

  • Entering the college without valid student ID card and not following the specified dress code.

  • Possessing and using any type of cell phones inside the college campus.

  • Committing or threatening to commit any act of violence against self or other.

  • Interfering with the freedom of movement of another person.

  • Invading the privacy of another person.

  • Stalking (Purposely and repeatedly engaging in behaviour directed at a specific person which reasonably causes that person alarm, distress, fear or a change of normal behaviour.)

  • Interfering with the right of another to enter, use, or leave any college building, property, service, resource, or activity.

  • Interfering with a faculty member or college official in the performance of his or her duty.

  • Interfering with the freedoms of speech, religion, or association of another.

  • Trespassing or the unauthorized entering or accessing of any institution building,facility, property, service, resource, or activity.

  • Instigating, participating in or otherwise encouraging others to engage in a fight, riot or other disruption.

  • Making, exhibiting, or producing any inappropriate, loud, or disruptive noise or behaviour.

  • Smoking inside the college premises.

  • The possession, use, consumption, manufacture, sale or distribution of alcohol or any drugs within the campus.


  • B. Endangering the Safety of Others


    A student shall not endanger the lives or safety of others.

    Violations

    Specific violations of this standard include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating an unsafe condition or environment which could cause harm to self or others.

  • Setting or causing a fire.

  • Tampering with, misusing or damaging fire or safety equipment, such as alarms, heat sensors, smoke detectors, first-aid-kits, hoses, and fire extinguishers.

  • Disobeying a command by any college official or faculty member in connection with a fire, alarm, or other safety or security matter.


  • C. Failure to Comply

    It is a violation to ignore, disobey, disregard, or otherwise violate any provision of this Code of Conduct or any applicable rule.

    Violations

  • Specific violations of this standard include, but are not limited to:

  • Failing to comply with the directive of any college-official or faculty member.

  • Failing to comply with the terms of any policy, procedure or agreement of the college.

  • Failing to comply with any applicable state or local law.

  • Failing to inform the college of an off-campus criminal charge(s) or conviction.


  • D. Ragging and Unlawful harassment

    Ragging is any disorderly conduct, whether by words spoken or written, or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any student, indulging in indiscipline activities which cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of embarrassment so as to adversely affect the psyche of a fresher or a junior student.

    When a person is physically forced, intimidated or coerced into unlawful harassment, or when a person is physically or mentally unable to give consent, violations will be adjudicated by the college.

    Violations

    Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts, but are not limited to:

  • Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.

  • Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.

  • Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students.

  • Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, videos causing bodily harm or any other danger to physical & mental health of the student.

  • Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, posts, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student.

  • Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.


  • E. Misuse of Institution materials, services or property

    A student shall not misuse any college material, service or property.

    Violations

    Specific violations of this standard include, but are not limited to:

  • Scribbling on the walls and desks or doing any other kind of damage to the college property.

  • Throwing waste papers, chocolate covers etc. on the veranda, stair case or any other place within the campus.

  • Damaging of the laboratory equipment or any material issued or owned by the college.

  • Damaging or misusing the student identification card.

  • Reading, duplicating, removing, photographing, forging, counterfeiting or altering any college document or record without authorization.

  • Loitering in the verandas, sitting on the steps of the portico and staircases or in any other unauthorized locations.


  • F. Off-Campus Conduct

    Students are expected to maintain the integrity of the college when visiting industries or participating in other activities outside the college.

    Violations

    Specific violations of this standard include, but are not limited to:

  • Violations of traffic rules, local, state law.

  • A student is responsible for notifying the college of any off-campus arrest.

  • Students participating in political party and anti-communal activities.


  • G. Misuse of Computers

    Misusing, disrupting, hindering, damaging the service, destroying of computers, software and network provided by the college.

    Violations

    Specific violations of this standard include, but are not limited to:

  • Misuse of internet using Wi-Fi, data cards, campus network (library, computer center, etc) in the college premises.

  • Email spamming, unauthorized access to prohibited internet websites, hacking of information, posting fake comments and misuse of photos in social networks.

  • Illegal copying or downloading of copyrighted materials (text, pictures, and video) from the internet for assignments, seminars, tutorials, report preparation.


  • H. Sexual and other discriminatory harassment

    When a person is physically forced, intimidated or coerced into a sexual act. Violations will be adjudicated by the college and may be reported to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

    Violations

    Specific violations of this standard include, but are not limited to:

  • Unwanted touching such as patting, pinching, hugging or repeated brushing against as individuals body, harassing with words, compulsion for favours.

  • Behaviour in a discriminatory nature that does not necessarily rise to the level of sexual or other discriminatory harassment may nonetheless be unprofessional in the college, disruptive in the classroom, or violate other college policies and could warrant remedial actions and / or discipline.

  • 3. CONDUCT IN STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS:

    Students are expected to obey the rules laid by the associations and clubs in which they are members.

    Violations

    Specific violations of this standard include, but are not limited to:

  • Organising functions, conferences, meetings or any gathering without the prior permission of the Faculty Advisor and Principal.

  • Absenting from classes in the name of club activities.

  • Forcing a student to take part in any club or student organization activities.

  • Whistling, shouting and screaming in any of the functions conducted by the college.
  • PROCEDURE FOR INVESTIGATION:

  • Any misbehavior or violation of code of conduct by students is brought to the notice of the Principal immediately. Principal may at his discretion can place the offenders under suspension.

  • A committee is constituted by the Principal to probe into the incident. The proceedings of enquiry are recorded and documented. The findings of the committee are submitted subsequently to the Principal based on which the course of punishment is decided and orders released for actions like charging with fine or debarring or expulsion.

  • PSG TECH HOSTELS RULES AND REGULATION

  • Application for admission to the hostel must be made in the prescribed form. Admissions are made subject to the approval of the warden.

  • A student shall not occupy a room without allotment. Resident shall neither transfer not exchange their rooms with other resident.

  • While every effort will be made to accommodate all the aspirants in the hostel, the following categories of students will not be provided accommodation.

  • Those who have not cleared the dues of the previous academic year. Those who have not paid mess deposit advance and establishment charges in full.

  • Those who are possessing powered vehicles.

  • Discipline in the hostel will be under the control of the Warden, Deputy Warden and Resident Tutors.

  • Ragging in all its forms is strictly banned as it is treated as a cognizable offence. Any resident found guilty of ragging will be dismissed from the hostel and college. Further, legal action will taken against the defaulters.

  • Residents are informed not to entertain day scholars in the hostel campus. if found, the hosteller who is responsible for taking a day scholar will be fined Rs.150/-

  • Inmates are not permitted to conduct or attend party / get-together / religious meetings inside /outside the hostel without prior permission.

  • Always the residents should possess their hostel ID card. The hostel ID card must be shown for verification whenever security guard / gate in-charges / other hostel authorities ask the same.

  • Smoking and playing cards are strictly prohibited.

  • During any time, any resident who falls sick and needs hospitalization is advised to bring it to the kind notice of the Matron (LH Gate) / Resident Tutor / Deputy Warden/Assoicate Warden / Warden immediately for further assistance. Doctor for consulting is available between 6.00pm to 8.00pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at PSG Pharmacy near the main gate.

  • Only the parents and local guardians are permitted to meet the inmates in the visiting lounge between 6.30 am and 8.30 pm on all days. Cousins and brothers (above 15 years) are permitted to meet the inmates only on producing the VISITORS ID.

  • Residents are strictly warned of the serious and cognizable offence of being in possession of liquor or drinks or being found under their influence. Such residents will be expelled from hostel.

  • Members are not permitted to convene meetings of any nature in the hostel without the Warden's written permission. Also student should not assemble or move as groups inside hostel campus.

  • All senior men residents shall return to the hostel premises before 9.00 p.m. All lady residents shall return to their hostel premises before 6.30 pm, except sandwich students. First year sandwich men residents shall return to hostel before 7.30 pm. Free night is not applicable to first year residents.

  • If resident is not available in a room continuously for 24 hours or more without any information to the roommates, it is the responsibility of the roommates to inform the same to Warden / Dy. Warden / Resident Tutors for further action. Such information will be intimated to the parents immediately after the hostel authority came to know that the resident is not available in room.

  • Birthday celebration in any form is banned inside the hostel. Residents should not bring cakes inside the hostel.

  • Residents shall vacate the hostel whenever they are interested to do so and the establishments charges once paid will not be refunded.

  • No person other than those admitted as residents of the hostel shall stay in the hostel premises. Anyone who permit outsiders on their room without permission will be expelled from hostel.

  • if the residents want to go for Industrial Visit (IV) arranged by their department, they are informed to submit Principal's approval letter, with details as Name list of Hostellers going for IV, date and time of leaving the hostel, date and time of return to hostel, accompanying faculty members duly signed by their HOD with seal. In addition to this, parents should inform the hostel office regarding the IV and it is to be approved by Associate Warden/Deputy Warden / Warden at least before two days of IV.

  • Members are not allowed to put up notice without the Warden's written permission.

  • Residents should wipe their smart card in the computer attendance system of their block for attendance in near future. If anyone is found not staying in hostel without permission, action will be taken against them.

  • Civil complaints and electrical complaints of the rooms and blocks shall be entered separately in the register kept at the entrance of blocks. Also they shall register their complaints online through block superiors.

  • CODE OF CONDUCT FOR FACULTY

  • The faculty members should be have with gentleness & diplomacy towards students and fellow faculty.

  • They should not use mobile phones inside classrooms, exams halls and other places inside the campus except in their departments.

  • They should use gentle and appropriate verbal language while dealing with students inside& outside the classroom in both academic and non academic matters. They should not resort to man handling and violent behaviours.

  • They should not show any favoritism to any particular student and should be unbiased in actions. They should treat all the students with equal-mindedness.

  • They should maintain timeliness when meeting students out of the classroom for academic matters.

  • Do's Cleanliness:

  • Keep your room clean and also the place you use

  • Learn and understand the steps /activities involved in keeping the place clean

  • Contribute for general cleanliness of the campus

  • Take care of mental health and physical health

  • Regularly contact and communicate with parents on routine activities

  • Allow mind to recall your success, potential demanded and the amount of effort you have contributed

  • On day to day, weekly, monthly basis assess your contribution towards the goal / target

  • Everyday morning spend atleast five minutes for planning for that day activities

  • Take breakfast without fail. Eat as much as possible in the morning

  • Drink 'the food and eat' water

  • Do physical exercises daily

  • Discuss your difficulties with your friends and tutor

  • Use cellular phone only for essential purpose with minimum time

  • Don'ts


  • Do not keep costly items

  • Do not wander around the campus

  • Do not smoke

  • Do not share private problems with others except your parents and close friends

  • Do not miss the class

  • Do not study beyond planned study hour

  • Do not compare the method of study of others - each has his/her own ways and means

  • Never allow study hours for discussion, writing records , assignments etc

  • Do not worry; Do not keep body/mind idle for longer time

  • Never think of the negative aspects.

  • Do not ignore the experience gained from negative thought/result

  • Never allow mind to fade from success

  • Do not sleep without assessing the contribution of that day

  • Never take food with serious thoughts

  • Never keep empty stomach

  • Do not take heavy food in the night

  • Do not go late to mess

  • Do not throw the waste papers, chalk piece etc., in the prohibited areas

  • Do not throw the bubblegum ends in toilets, roads, chairs etc.,

  • Good Learning Habits:

  • Be attentive in the class

  • Take the gist of class lecture

  • Daily recall the same in the evening during study hour

  • Fix and follow clearly the study hour

  • Have discussion hours separately

  • All Notes/Books/calculator should have your name and class
  • Use library effectively
  • General:

  • Follow ethical practices and given guidelines
  • Remember that faculty have long-term memories which can assist you in your efforts
